When your feedback receiver is really angry

Doing someone’s performance evaluation discussion can be very tough sometimes.

Sometimes, when the feedback receiver is feeling really disturbed, angry, try saying:

“You know we are not talking about your evaluation, right?” Pause.

They will be thrown off. Let the awkward silence pass. Wait for the “What the heck do you mean?” expression to show up.

Then continue in a cool, soft tone…

“We are not talking about your evaluation. We both are talking about your performance evaluation. You get the difference?”

If done kindly but firmly – it can really help.

P.S. Can be used as a reminder during our own evaluations too 😉
